What is Digital Center?

 

In order to build an innovative Bangladesh, to deliver government services to the doorsteps of the people easily, quickly and at low cost, on November 11, 2010, Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Union Information and Service Centers in 4501 Unions of the country, which is now well known as Union Digital Center (UDC).

In line with the positive contribution of UDCs at the Union level in changing the quality of life of the citizens, in 2013 Municipal Digital Centers (PDC) in 328 Municipalities and City Digital Centers (CDC) in 465 Wards of 11 City Corporations, in 2018 6 Specialized Digital Centers (SDC) in light of the needs of special population (garment workers) 5 in Gazipur and 1 in Rupsa in Khulna for fishermen) and 15 Expatriate Digital Centers (EDC) have been launched in Saudi Arabia.

Currently 16087 entrepreneurs working in 8297 digital centers across the country are providing more than 320 public and private services including banking and e-commerce services. 68.4 crores by the year 2020 from the digital center. Citizens saved 1.68 billion equivalent hours of work, 9.25 billion dollars equivalent in costs and 0.5 billion equivalents of travel in accessing services. In recognition of its positive contribution in changing the quality of life of citizens, the Digital Center has been awarded the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award by the United Nations specialized agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the e-Government category in 2014.
